VluchtelingenWerk Nederland is a national voluntary organisation that provides practical support to refugees who want to build a new life in the Netherlands. The organisation is represented nationally and regionally and is active in almost every community and refugee centre. It is the only organisation in the Netherlands that can assist refugees at every stage of their stay.

The new Integration Act sets a number of requirements for refugees in terms of education, language competence, work and income. VluchtelingenWerk Nederland provides assistance in these areas. There is also more emphasis now on financial accountability with respect to the money that is made available. In order to meet these new requirements, the registration system needed to be adapted. West was approached for this task. West has more than 20 years' experience and specific expertise with this type of system, which is based on an open source code and open standards. West also has a reputation for being flexible and decisive.
West started with an analysis of the registration system. The system's source code and system documentation were checked in order to ascertain whether adapting the system would make technical and economic sense.
The conclusion was that it would be more efficient to build a new system than to extend the existing one. After VluchtelingenWerk Nederland gave its approval, West worked with the organisation to establish the user requirements. The system was gradually built and delivered in parts.
West realised an online registration system on time, within budget and in accordance with the requirements. According to the users, the registration system is logical, fast and can be used at central, regional or local level. VluchtelingenWerk Nederland also appreciates West's fast response time when executing the necessary changes as well as the constant availability of the system.
